July started in a flurry.
First we had members attending the Cotswold Caper run on Sunday 3rd, a very good 108 mile run that started in Cheltenham, then through Winchcombe, Stow-on-the-Wold to Bourton-on-the-Water, where we had a welcome stop. After that we travelled through Sherborne to Lechlade on Thames for lunch, then via Fairford, Bilbury back to Cheltenham.
Monday the 4th, was Aylesburys Pride of Ownership night at the Arrows at Waddesdon, a few of our members attended, but alas did not win any prizes this time. Another good night out with fine Sausage and Mash, thank you Aylesbury.
Wednesday the 6th we had 8 members travelling to the Le Mans Classic, for our regular continental run, I’m sure we will hear about it very soon after they return on the 10th.
Wednesday 6th should have been a quiet Club Night, with only one new member Cliff due to attend and a few members. I arrived to find not one but three new members and a good number of members and variety of cars.
We had Robert who has a treasured red GT, which needs a little TLC and some support, Cliff with a GT but did say he would not chance a long run with this one, (he’s had others) and Val who has an RV8 plus Land Rover, an Yamaha RD, for speed and fun and another motor bike a Michelin!! we all had not heard of this one and it was suggested his garage would make an ideal run out event.
The club welcomes them all and hopes they will enjoy and get involved in its activities.
On the 22nd May Jackie, Martin, Yvonne and I, attended Northampton’s Rose of the Shires run.
The run supported the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and started at the Old Grammarians Memorial Sports Fields Wellingborough, through some very lovely roads to the Nene Valley Railway at Peterborough, a distance of 76 miles.
Martin and Jackie took their GT for an MOT, prior to their June run to the New Forest, it failed! so an embarrassed Martin arrived in a heavily disguised MG/Audi which was not as much fun, considering the weather and glorious roads that we covered.
Still we keep our fingers crossed for the weather and of course roads and scenery this weekend.
My (Brian) MGB roadster and Rogers MGB GT kept each other company at the local bodyshop, where they were tarted up, ready for the spring. Malcolm, Roger and I went to the Laon Historique in France. For some reason, Rogers MG had the word “Jaguar” written on the front. The event was well organised with a stop at Arras before arriving at Laon and two more days of motoring. The French people of the area made us all very welcome.
We continued with our first Pub Trawl, a navigation and driving event requiring simple navigating skills, safe drivers and a sense of humour. We all met at a very busy Super Sausage to get our instructions before setting off.
As always, we ended up in a pub. Well done to Tony and Christine for winning.
During the month various members went to the Alyesbury Clubs 30th Anniversary run to Stowe House and the Rose of the Shires, Martin & Jackies BGT had some issues so an MG/Audi was substituted.
In June we have a different event to that planned – a trip to Broughton Castle. Lovely roads, a nice pub for lunch and a beautiful English castle., also some members are attending the New Forest Run on the 5th June.
We’ve had some technical issues with the website, so thanks to Ian Forrow for sorting it out.
We do need to have a discussion about the future of the website and its associated costs. I’ll raise it at the next club night.
In July we have a large party heading off to Le Mans for the biannual Classic. We’re all looking forward to the sight and sound of those beautiful old cars hurtling down the Mulsanne Straight. Also some members are attending the Cotswold Caper run on the 3rd of July.
Our summer mid month pub dinners run from July to September. Why not suggest a favourite country pub for us all to visit. The Goodwood Revival beckons in September. I hope you all get the chance to enjoy your cars through the
Spring.

The busy year continues. We started April with a run across to our friends in Aylesbury MG Club at the 5 Arrows in Waddesdon where there was a talk on keeping your cars safe from theft. It was fascinating, informative….and terrifying. If you’d like any information, please speak to Brian. The main suggestions were to buy a disklok, fit datadots and secure your garage.
The 10th April the club supported the 10th MK Classic Tour. 220 cars – a record entry. We saw a number of new club members joining in the fun. It was hectic at the start, at Millbrook, at Broughton Castle and at Silverstone, where Porsche did a marvellous job. Everyone seemed to have a good day out. Thanks to the MK MGOC marshalls, you were excellent. Mike and Alison are
going to be able to hand over £10,500 in equipment to Little Lives at MK Hospital. Just think how many babies have had a better and safer start in life over the last ten years.
Drive It Day proved a popular event with 15 coming along for a great trip across to Perry, near Grafham Water with lunch at the Wheatsheaf. Thanks again to Mike for route.
May 22nd will be our navigation / driving event requiring simple navigating skills, safe drivers and a sense of humour. Ending with Sunday Lunch.
Don’t forget we’ve got members joining the Rose of the Shires, the New Forest and the Cotswold Caper. If you’ve not done one of these events before, why not try one?
Also we have members going to Laon, Le Mans and Goodwood – always good fun.
This is a late addition to our Events calendar. The plan is to have a 30-40 mile route planned starting from the Inn on the Lake and arriving at a pub for Sunday Lunch.

We also have club members booked to attend the Regency Run, The Rose of the Shires, The New Forest Run and the Cotswold Caper.
Well, I can finally say that MK MGOC has gone to the dogs! We had 20 people turn up at our February event- an evening dog racing at Towcester Race Course. It was a good night out and a few people actually made a profit!
It will be a good place to visit again in the summer when it’s a bit warmer and we can watch from the balcony.
Next month we have the Coventry Transport Museum.
Don’t forget that on 10th April we will be supporting MK Classic Tour in aid of the Little Lives at MK Hospital. Mike has a wonderful route planned and remember there is a rare opportunity to use the Alpine Track at Millbrook and
the fantastic facilities at Porsche Silverstone.
Try and keep April 24th free as it is Drive It Day and we are hoping to get something planned.
Keep your eyes on the website and newsletters for further updates
We’re also planning another mid month run to the Towcester Brewery taproom
on Wednesday 20th April.
We already have parties booked to go to the Le Mans Classic in July and the Goodwood Revival in September. If you have never been, why not sign up? They are great events.
Ian and Martin have booked places at a number of MGOC runs. Why not have a look on the website and sign up for a good day out with them.
We have a full year planned so make sure you look at the Events Calendar and get the dates in your diary now.
Hi everyone,
Thanks to everyone who came to the January meeting – it was good to see so many of you.
The January Cobweb Duster was a great success. We had 24 people at the red Lion in Milton Bryan. Mike Cornwell had arranged an excellent 30 mile drive for us before enjoying lunch. This is proving to be one of the most popular events of the year.
On Friday 12th February we are planning a trip to Towcester Racecourse for a dog racing night. Entry is free and there are places to buy food and drinks, as well as indoor heated areas to watch the racing. It should be a good night out. The plan is to meet at the Super Sausage car park at 7.15pm. The dog racing starts at 7.30pm till 10pm. I’ll send out a reminder nearer the time.
On Saturday 12th March we are planning a run across country to the Coventry Transport Museum, which looks really interesting. Entry is £5.00
We already have parties booked to go to the Le Mans Classic in July and the Goodwood Revival in September. So let us now if you’d like to join in.
I’ve attached the Events Calendar for the year so you can get the dates in your diaries now. It should be another good year for the club.
At the club meeting, Ian Whipp gave out MK MGOC mugs to those members who have paid their subs. The mugs are brilliant, Union Flag and classic steering wheel – well done Ian!
Cheers
Brian
