May Club Night Update

Hi everyone,

It was good to see so many of you at our May Club night – 25 people altogether. It was clear that everyone is looking forward to the prospect of warmer weather and the opportunity to use our cars. We also welcomed two more new members. Hedley Turner and Carl Silcock.

April was a busy month with the MK Classic Tour. We had eight members acting as marshalls this year. Mike thanks everyone who supported either as a marshall or as an entrant. Once again, it was a great success with well over £12,000 raised for the Little Lives Charity!

Andrew and Brian went on a road trip to the Isle of Man and to Donington. 25-30 April. It was a great trip, driving the TT course, watching Manx Classic Events, visiting the Manx Motor Museum and attending the Donington Historic on the way home. I highly recommend it.

COMING UP:

 May 14^th Club Event – Pub Trawl
This will be a fun day out for drivers and navigators. It’s a simple case of planning the most efficient route through the countryside, finding various objectives and then arriving at our planned finish point for lunch. All you need are simple navigating skills, safe drivers and a sense of humour.
In order to get us away from familiar roads the plan is to use the Hare and Hounds at Old Warden.
The Plan
10.30am          Meet at Poplars Garden Centre for teas coffees
10.30am          Receive instructions. Plan route.
11.00am          Depart
1.00pm            Arrive at hare & Hounds for lunch

In July we will restart our mid month summer runs. A drive through the countryside to a nice hostelry for dinner. Next meeting I will ask for volunteers to choose a pub (it’s not difficult)

5th April Club Night Review

A big thank you for a terrific turn out on the night and a big welcome to Glenn & Sharon, Des and Steve, all have now been included in our circulation list and have been given club web IDs.

Andrew has a FREE spare ticket for Saturday 29th for the Donnington Historic Festival with 10 races on the day, if your interested in attending please contact us and we will supply the information and put you in contact with him.

Fun Run on Sunday 14th May, this was passed around on the night and Brian would like names for this rule so he can organise the meals etc, please let us know if your coming the more the better. It will be a very good day out and sunshine is guaranteed!!

As explained, I have the parts that were offered to us by a member who has sold all his cars. If you see any thing send me an e-mail and I will see if its available. Also Terry said he has numerous MG parts after tidying his garage all these parts are free of charge.

Don’t forget its Alison and Mike’s MK Classic this Sunday, all Marshall’s have been given their packs, but if you still wish to attend, especially our new members please drop us a line ASAP, a copy of the events material is on the clubs web page.

The two runs in June, the New Forest Run 4th June and Cotswold Caper 25th June which three members are attending, the details follow as requested.

• This year the run will on 25^th June 2017. To find out more about the run you can see our web page at http://www.glosmgoc.co.uk/caper.htm where you can also download our entry form.
• The run takes in approximately 85 miles of beautiful countryside, wildlife and peace and quiet, finishing this year at the South Lawns Hotel, Lymington Road, Milford on Sea.  SO41  0RF.    At the finish, we will have the use of the function room at the hotel and for a fee of £5 per person, booked at time of entry, the opportunity to have a cream tea.Arrive any time from 9.00am – all cars away by 11.00 please!

March Club Review

We had a great turnout at the March club night again. It was good to see a number of new members too.

Thanks to Roger Garnham who organised the Club Curry Night at the Haldi in Pitstone. A very sociable evening.  We also got to see Geoff & Liz’s V8 Roadster for the first time – quite a talking point!

Sadly, Kens wife, Janet passed away during March. Janet had been a member of our club for many years. It was nice to see so many club members at her funeral and afterwards at the Inn on the Lake. Our thoughts are with Ken.

The MK Classic Tour now has 210 entries. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to be a marshall. It will be a great day out for everyone with many thousands of pounds raised for the Little Lives appeal. It’s always nice to see so many great cars on the road every year.

The April run to the Isle of Man to drive the TT route, watch the Manx Classic and visit the new museum, will be exciting although I’m not looking forward to a five hour drive on motorways to Liverpool in the MGB. If only we had roads like the French.

May 14th will be our fun annual navigation and driving event, driving through the countryside, followed by a roast lunch at the Hare and Hounds at Old Warden. Make sure you get your name on the list.

June is a busy month with MG Live at Silverstone, Classic Car  Night at Jacks Hill Cafe and a party planning to go to the Spa Summer Classic. More details to follow. A number of members are also attending The New Forest and Cotswold Caper runs in June

Spring is here, so get those MGs out!

February Club Meeting Update

Hi everyone,

It was great to see so many of you at Club Night. It was such a grey and wet day that even I had the roof up on my car.

General news

It was nice to welcome another new member, Brian Page. He has two MGBs, a roadster undergoing a full restoration and a GT for trips to the supermarket.

Ian Camerons internment will be held on 10^th February, followed by drinks/sandwiches at the Five Bells. His MGs had been an important part of his life. A number of us will be going in our MGs. All Saints Church, Chalgrave Road, Chalgrave, Bedfordshire, LU5 6JN

I have received a letter from someone who has written a book on converting a rubber bumper to chrome bumpers. It can be obtained from the MGOC Bookshop or direct from peter@mileham.net

Sunday 9^th April – PROPOSED TRING BREWERY MASH UP TOUR

This relaxed but informative evening in the company of like minded beer fans includes a tour covering the history of the brewery, the beers and how they make them. There’s fish and chips (other options available), halfway through the evening and beer flowing from the pumps all night long.

New Years Day Duster Run & Club Night

Hi everyone,

A quick follow up from Wednesdays Club Night.

We got January off to a flying start with the New Years Day Run. We had 11 cars on the run and 23 people at the Red Lion at Milton Bryan. Everyone enjoyed the run, although the pub was disappointing. Looks like we’ll need to find a new one for next year

We had a new member, Geoff, come along. He has recently acquired a MGB V8 Roadster. Looking forward to seeing (and hear) it in the warmer months.

Club night was relatively quiet, so we ran through the events for the next couple of months

Manx Classic and Donington Historic.

I am planning a trip with some mates to the Isle of Man at the end of April. We will visit the new motoring museum, drive the TT circuit and watch the Manx Classic Hill Climb. On the way back we’ll be stopping at Donington for the Historic race event. If you’d like to join us, please let me know and I’ll forward the details.
