Our New Years Day run from Red Bull?Racing to the Red Lion at Milton Bryan, was a?fantastic run out,?with a large number of members attending. The weather was kind and we had a number of brave members who decided to go “topless”.
The weather held and were not disappointed as?we completed a 44 mile route, planned my Mike C. Another big thank you to him and we hope he will be better soon.
Brian & Doreen joined the club on the day and Mark T another new member arrived with his 1949?imported MG TC, still with the Canadian plates on, a very pretty car.
The Red Lion made us welcome and provided welcome refreshments to round of the day.
More pictures can be found on our gallery page.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and we wish everyone a Happy New Year.
Thank you to everyone for your help and support in 2014,
It was nice t o see a good turnout for our Christmas Dinner at the Inn on the
Lake. We had 23 people attend plus three members who came for a beer and a
chat. Gary also brought along a new brass radiator that he has had made for
his J Type ? the project continues!
We also welcomed Ted, who has an MGB?and an immaculate Ford Prefect.
The numbers are building steadily for our New Years Day run from Red Bull
Racing to the Red Lion at Milton Bryan.
The event should be great?so book now! also a big thanks to Mike C for planning the route for us.
Don?t forget, we have booked to have a go on a Boeing 737 Flight simulator?in February, with the chance to ?fly into? any airport in the world. It?should be a good laugh, although our ability to navigate on terra firma?won?t help us in the simulated skies above world airports. If we have?enough interested we may be able to get a second session booked.
Once again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year?
?You beat me to it! I was going to say thank you for a wonderful goodbye.
To all members of the Milton Keynes MG Owners Club.?
Many thanks for the leaving present of the wheel and the mini socket set. I will not be able to see or use them for a while as Sarah has already packed them up!!
Lorraine and David would like to say how well they have been looked after by all the members during a period when Lorraine’s health has been quite a handicap causing us to slow up considerably which entailed a lot of patience by those helping or looking on.
I know some members join for a few weeks and never come again, others join and feel part of something they wish to contribute to and support.
I truly believe we have now built up a membership that form the latter category and for this reason I know that the MKMGOC will go from strength to strength.
My thanks go especially to Brian and Ian who have taken over the monthly chores. Also to those members who have added value with their contribution to the programme, it started slowly with Mike?but soon Ken, Roger, Ian, Alan, Mark and Dawn and others I have forgotten (sorry) have now made a contribution to the increasing success of the club.
So it is goodbye after many many years but we may see you at the odd event or even up in Norfolk. Good luck to you all.
David and Lorraine.
In October we were delighted to welcome Willy Cave, the famous rally
navigator, to talk about his life in the navigator?s seat. His?extraordinary life story covered exploits in an MG 18/80, rallying since the?50?s, Jack Brabham, Mike Hawthorne, Paddy Hopkirk, flying a Spitfire and?fast jets and finishing the Monte Carlo Rally in a London Taxi! It is a story?that would make a wonderful book ? I do hope he writes it. He is a true?gentleman.
We had a great time on our mid month run to the Towcester Brewing Company.?The tap room felt like a proper pub – good beer, in pleasant surroundings and?the chance to chat with your mates. We?ll certainly go again.
Sadly for us, David Simons will be moving out of the area. He was a great?Area Secretary for many years, making new members feel welcome to this?friendly club. Thank you David for your big smile, generosity and kindness?? we?ll miss you.
NEW EVENT – Shake off that hangover with an MG run on New Year?s Day. Mark?has kindly arranged for us to start at Red Bull Racing at around 10.00am.?More details to follow see Events tab….but get it in your diary now.
At the AGM in November, we welcomed Martin and Jackie ?to the club and hope to see them at events throughout the year, also an outline events plan was presented.
?The ideas for 2015 include, Weekenders to Jersey,?Norfolk and Somerset; International Runs to the Nurburgring or Spa; Classic?Car rallies, as well as a broad range of tours to Breweries, Museums and?Motor Racing. The summer mid month runs have proved a great success this?year, encouraging the involvement of partners by driving to country pubs on?warm summer evenings. Hopefully, we can make 2015 another active year for the?club.
We had a good turnout for Club Night on the 8th?October. We welcomed Chivs partner Jane and look forward to seeing them both at future club events. Unfortunately Chivs friend Steve has been taken ill and?couldn’t?attend ? we wish him a speedy recovery.
Club News Update
Mike & Alison?s ?Little Lives? charity run in September was another great success, adding to the tens of thousands already raised. Starting at Woburn, through Canons Ashby and Sywell and finishing at Lavendon. The Neo Natal unit at Milton Keynes Hospital is dedicating a room to the ?MK Classic Tour?, for parents of premature babies.
Mike had another busy month, which continued in Switzerland on the 5th?for the?Alpine Challenge?. He achieved first in one event and third overall ? all in his MGB GT. The car performed brilliantly despite bending the exhaust after an abrupt landing. If anyone is interested in historic rallying, please talk to Mike
We also had members attending the Goodwood Revival ? Terry & Alan and saw the last two Lancasters flying. It may be the last chance to see these wonderful parts of our history flying together as one has to return to Canada shortly.
Brian went to the ?6 Hours of Spa? in Belgium with a small group. It was a fabulous event, focused on racing, with huge grids of beautiful historic cars. It also allows access to almost all areas so you can really get involved in the racing experience. The racing itself was thrilling but I have to save my praises for the track itself which is demanding for drivers but with great visibility for spectators. James Simons was there, looking after a couple of racing teams. His crew were based in one of the new Formula 1 pits. James looks set to be the next Ross Brawn
There was a great deal of praise for Pistons & Props at Sywell. Considering that this is only its second year, it is becoming a ?must see? in the classic calendar.
Upcoming Events:
The winter months are traditionally a quiet period for classic clubs, however everyone seemed keen to maintain activities throughout the rest of the year. So please check the events page
It was good to see you at the Club Night last Wednesday 6th.??It was nice to welcome Ian Cameron to his first meeting with us ? he has an MGB plus two interesting cars, a 1946 MG TC & 1933 Austin 10 two seater, with dicky. Gary brought along a pedal box that he has hand built for his 1933 MG J2 car ? the project continues.
Club Update:
Nine members went to the Le Mans Classic in July. Some hardy folk were camping at the track while the posh folk were luxuriating at a converted mill…..ahhh how the other half lives! The event was excellent; some superb racing, beautiful cars and great French roads.
The Mid Month Pub Run on the 16th?proved very popular. Many thanks to Mike Cornwell who found an excellent pub and organised a beautiful cross country run to get there. How does he find all of these interesting country roads? There was a mid evening panic as everyone with roadsters rushed out to get their roofs up when it started raining.
On the 27th??we had our first???Scrabble Run?. It was great fun and everyone had a good time. After meeting at the Super Sausage for a slap up breakfast everyone received their instructions and headed out into the villages of Northamptonshire. The feedback was very positive ? with some saying it was better than the Hub & Spoke. We will certainly do another.
The Scrabble run was a great success, with all those attending, agreeing the instructions and rules provided by Brian were excellent.
After a breakfast at the Super Sausage near Towcester, members left to navigate via villages to gain letters for their scrabble challange, being instructed to be at the Navigation Inn, Cosgrove by 1pm. Everone was suprised that Yvonne & Ian were first (not known of before this!) while others were penalised if they were late. Brian & Jenny who organised, were the last home. Lunch followed and Julie & Tim, won the prize.
On Wednesday evening 8 cars?(15 people)?left the club venue for a lovely drive via mainly back roads to The Red Lion for dinner. Mike found some nice roads and the pubs food was really good, the weather was warm and dry.
While having our food Dawn exclaimed Its Raining!!! only to see those with hoods down, dash out. As Ian & Yvonne had their tonneaux on, they did not have to dash, but were caught out when they left with Terry & Margaret after the pub had closed, as they left with top down it started to rain again. Not wanting to stop they pressed on, as we all know, if your going fast enough you wont get wet!
Thanks Mike & Alison for a great run, bring on the curry night next month,?Roger has planned for us and dont forget to let us know if your coming.
