Mike Hydes TF Time Line Poser
Mike Hyde contacted the club members for assistace with an TF issue, the e-mails make interesting and amusing reading, the time line is as follows:>
- Can anyone oblige, need the use of a valve spring compressor for a couple of days, Mine can\’t deal with the deep dark recesses of the K engine. Number one cylinder both Inlet valves leaking, very odd !
Sub frame and engine/trans spread out on my garage floor at the moment club members welcome to view, open all hours !
Thanks guys
- Hi Mike,
What have you got yourself into! I don’t have one but will circulate this to all our members, I’m sure someone will be a knight in shining armour. Hope it goes well, send some pictures and I will have them put on the web site. All the best MK mgoc
- Thanks, escalation from a suspect spark plug believe it or not. Be warned fellow tf enthusiasts !
07 30 am response from Ron in Aspley Guise, thinks he may have one and has generously offered to drop it off, fingers crossed that it fits. Will let you know.
A nice example here of club spirit I think.
Mike - Mmmmmmmm Liner heights at 0.0015 above deck height ( should be .004 ) now, which head gasket to fit. The M L S update ( as fitted ) requires min. 0.003 liner heights, the Payen elastomer version can deal with uneven liners, but unfortunately buries the fire ring into the soft head casting and leads to eventual gasket failure, decisions decisions. ! ( This is me talking to myself, quite usual in tf ownership I believe) Mike
- QED Ron just delivered the perfect valve spring compressor to my door, my thanks to all other who offered Now its ” top up the swear box ” time. Mike.
- Update on my own tf1600, engine and sub frame reunited with the front half of the car. Quite a task but made much easier with the aid of an excellent mobile mechanic in both the removal and the refitting of the big lump. Impressed with the rear sub frame, built by the Forth Bridge engineers I suspect, definitely no Colin Chapman influence there.
- Valves reseated, head gasket, cam belt, clutch assay, exhaust system, sub frame mountings, upper track control arms, rear window all replaced, New rear tyres fitted. Bank statements hidden from Mrs H.
